Over the years this Festival has become one of the main cultural events of the City of Oakland

The Vietnamese American Community in the Bay Area is the newest immigrant community but the fastest growing which numbers around 170,000 and has been contributing to the cultural enrichment, the ethnic diversity and the dynamic business development of the Bay Area in general and of City Oakland/Alameda County in particular.

Like years past, this year’s Tet Festival will again take place right at the center of an area most populated with Vietnamese and Southeast Asians and aims:

  1. To boost ethnic diversity of this city
  2. To foster harmony between different ethnic communities
  3. To enrich the culture of the city
  4. To attract tourists from outside of the city and to help develop local businesses

The organizing agency, the Vietnamese American Cultural & Educational Association of the Bay Area (VACed) is well-respected in the community and is able to get the support of many Vietnamese as well as non-Vietnamese Vietnamese community-based organizations, businesses and the local media in the organization of the festival. It is expected that the festival will draw ten of thousands of people to this unique event of the spring season.
