EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY |
The Vietnamese American Cultural & Educational Association of the Bay
Area (VACed), a 501 © 3 nonprofit community-based organization in
collaboration with other Ethnic Community-Based Organizations (ECBOs),
Business Development Agencies and the Vietnamese American Media of the
Bay Area will host the “Oakland Tet Festival 2007” at the Clinton
Park on
Sunday, February 11, 2007
from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Over the years this Festival has become one of
the main cultural events of the City of Oakland

The Vietnamese American Community in
the Bay Area is the newest immigrant community but the fastest growing
which numbers around 170,000 and has been contributing to the cultural
enrichment, the ethnic diversity and the dynamic business development of
the Bay Area in general and of City Oakland/Alameda County in
particular. |

|
Like years past, this year’s Tet
Festival will again take place right at the center of an area most
populated with Vietnamese and Southeast Asians and aims:

To boost ethnic diversity of this
city

To foster harmony between
different ethnic communities
-
To
enrich the culture of the city
-
To attract tourists from outside
of the city and to help develop local businesses

The organizing agency, the Vietnamese
American Cultural & Educational Association of the Bay Area (VACed) is
well-respected in the community and is able to get the support of many
Vietnamese as well as non-Vietnamese Vietnamese community-based
organizations, businesses and the local media in the organization of the
festival. It is expected that the festival will draw ten of thousands of
people to this unique event of the spring season. |

The team responsible for producing
this event includes dedicated people of good experiences and well
respected in the Oakland Vietnamese American community. |

THE FESTIVAL
LOCATION
|
|
Current estimates, which are based on
Census 2000, reveal that there are approximately 600,000 Vietnamese
residing in California. Out of this number, the Bay Area alone accounts
for 160,000. Alameda County of the East Bay prides itself as the heart
of the most diverse population group of Northern California, and Oakland
City is the focal point for both short-term and long-term development
plan of the East Bay. The Clinton Park is right in the heart of the area
most populated with Southeast Asians, notably the Vietnamese and is so
conveniently accessible through public transportation. The estimated
population within 10-mile radius of the Clinton Park is roughly half a
million. |

HIGHLIGHTS OF
THE 2007 TET FESTIVAL

The 2007 Oakland TET
festival offers a variety of attractions respond to the tastes of all
ages which range from international music and cultural dances, fashion
show, kids talents competition, public speaking contest, international
foods, martial arts demonstrations, dragon dances, Vietnamese Idol
singing competition, Chinese chess competition,
sporting competition and
many more.

Top of the list of the entertainment
program is the fully-fledged live musical entertainment by first class
entertainers coming from all over the country plus many talented
entertainers from the local Bay Area.

Participants to the Festival enjoy
free entertainment in addition to free admission, and many
incentive souvenir gifts from sponsors and organizing committee.

THE PEOPLE
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TET FESTIVAL

VACed entrusts the
following persons in the Organizing Committee of the 2007 TET Festival
based on their expertise and their track records of organizing cultural,
business and community events, notably the most recent Tet Festival in
January 2006 at the same location. Our goal is to make the TET Festival
a memorable event and to gain the trust of participants to the Festival.
Our motto is
VACed entrusts the following persons in the
Organizing Committee of the 2007 TET Festival based on their expertise
and their track records of organizing cultural, business and community
events, notably the most recent Tet Festival in January 2006 at the
same location. Our goal is to make the TET Festival a memorable event
and to gain the trust of participants to the Festival. Our motto is
“Rely on the people you can trust to make the event successful”.

The Festival’s Executive team includes:
1/ Chair of the
Festival: Mr. Sung Le
Mr. Le is the
current VACed’s Board Chairman; in 2003 he successfully organized the
Oakland Mid-Autumn Festival and played crucial role in lining up
entertainment programs for all Festivals hosted by VACed.
2/ Vice Chair for Internal Affairs: Mr.
Calvin Nguyen
Mr. Nguyen is the owner/Manager of Anh
Dao Restaurant; he is currently Vice Chair for Internal affairs of the
Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce of Oakland & Vicinity. In 2005,
Mr. Nguyen was the Chair of Oakland Tet Festival 2005, one of the
biggest events ever been organized for the community
in the City of Oakland
3/ Vice Chair for External affairs:
Mr.Phuc Tran
Mr. Tran is the
owner/Manager of Tran Hong Phuc Insurance and Financial Services in
Oakland; He is the current President of the Oakland Vietnamese American
Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chair for External Affairs of VACed. Mr.
Tran has participated in all Festivals organized by VACed in a unique
capacity of fundraising for the events.
4/ Public Relations:
Ms. Hong Ha Le
Ms. Hong Ha Le is a VACed
Board member; She is an experienced and successful business executive
and consultant in Health Care technologies industry.
5/ Treasurer: Mr.
Allen Duong
Mr., Duong is the
Owner/Manager of Mai’s TV, Treasurer of the Oakland Vietnamese Chamber
of Commerce (1994-present), Treasurer of VACed.
VACed
Fundraising/Marketing Team:
Mr. Phuc
Tran along with Mr. Thuc Vinh, an Advisory Board Member, are the two key
persons working to secure funds for the event. |
